French Empire Miniature Ormolu Clock of Cupid Signed by Ledure and Thomas

About the Item

French Empire miniature ormolu clock of Cupid signed by Ledure and Thomas. A small French Empire clock only 10 inches (25 cms high) but of outstanding quality. A figure of Cupid stands on the rectangular base with a bow in one hand and an arrow in the other. On the base below him is a fine applied ormolu mount with Cupid's trophies including a heart. Original fire or mercury gilding. Fine annular dial with outside white enamel ring signed Ledure a Paris and Thomas Hr (horloger). Ledure is known to have been working at the Rue Neuve des Petits Champs between 1812 and 1820 while Thomas according to Tardy is working at Rue J. J Rousseau at about the same time. The movement is of 8 day duration striking the hours and halves on a cast bell by means of the count wheel system. The timekeeping is regulated bya silk suspended pendulum. The clock is dated in the movement, 1818.
