Important Trim in White Marble and Gilt Bronze, 19th Century

About the Item

Spectacular trim consisting of a clock and its candelabras decorated with Cupid sits on a tree stump. In Roman mythology, Cupid, son of Venus and Mars, is the god of love. The original gilding is of exceptional quality and in a unique state of preservation. The beauty of this set also lies in the quality of its powerfully modeled sculptures. The candelabras have six arms, one of which is in the centre, supported by cherubs. The clock is opulent and allows this set to be placed on a beautiful chest of drawers, a large sideboard or a fireplace. The dial is domed and white enamelled, the hours are painted blue with a Roman character. It is signed in the center "BALTHAZARD A PARIS". The needles are gilded and chiselled. The movement of the clock is signed in an oval cartouche: Victor Dewint Paris, active around 1850-1870 (Ref: Dictionary of French watchmakers by Tardy). The decor is exotic, with decorative motifs such as palm leaves. The dimensions of the candelabra are: Height 67 cm Width 33 cm Depth 26 cm.

  • Large Painting Representing "The Adoration Of The Shepherds", Italy 19th
    Located in VERSAILLES, FR
