Vintage 19th Century Enamel/Silver Austrian Clock
About the Item
This rare antique Austrian enamel and silver cabinet clock dates from the mid-19th century. The clock is designed with a beautifully rendered silver camel sculpture. This dromedary has a draped scarf showcasing impressive emerald, ruby, sapphire and pearl gem stones and is mounted on a silver and enamel footed platform. The four sided skirt of the platform features hand painted enamel mid eastern scenes and wildlife. Above the camel, one encounters an elaborate wide enamel oval surrounding a round key wind clock face with black Arabic numerals. The clock face is behind a framed glass door. A beautiful oval enamel with hand painted Mid Eastern scenes covers the back of the clock. Atop the clock stands a silver figure holding a sword and shield. There are other figural embellishments positioned on either side of the enamel oval. I do not have a key for the clock and don't know whether it works. For this reason alone, I am selling it "as is". The edge of the silver platform bears two small silver punch marks/hallmarks, the letter A within a hexagon and the letter L within a rectangle. This enamel jeweled timepiece is stunning. It has very minimal wear and is, otherwise, in excellent condition. A rare find!!! There are two punch marks/hallmarks that, for some reason, I am not able to load.
