Aimee-Pierced Ceramic Tabletop Sculpture Turquoise

About the Item

Aimee is part of the Femme Series, a sculptural exploration celebrating the female form. I am trying to capture the universal balance and grace of the female form. The delicacy of the of the pierced form, combined with the unexpected and seemingly impossible strength of the clay reflects how I see women throughout history. We may appear delicate while having incredible powers of perseverance, toughness, and resilience. This hand pierced sculpture made from wheel thrown white stoneware with a turquoise crackle glaze. While the clay is still wet, I map out and cut small holes. I then let the piece dry slowly to avoid cracking. Once it has dried completely, I painstakingly enlarge and smooth each hole one by one until the piece seems almost transparent.
