Art Nouveau Bronze Figure of a Young Woman
About the Item
For the art nouveau lover, this is certainly worth one to ponder, for all others, here is fine example art nouveau. The two color patina makes this very desirable. Her beautiful gold hair and face make this bronze a real winner. Artist signed Kossowski. Henryk Kossowski was born in Poland about 1855 and moved to Paris in 1882. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais. He won a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1900.
The marble base is not original to the bronze. The lines you see on her upper arms are seams. It was not broken and then fixed. Bronzes start their life being cast in segments, and are then attached. Over the years the patina can wear down which then can expose seams. These seams most frequently occur just where these show, on the upper arm. It's a beautiful bronze, and the lines really shouldn't detract from the overall beauty of the piece.

- Condition:Replacements made: I don't know if it's a replacement, but the marble base is an addition. It doesn't detract, and it looks fine. If not we could have simply removed it. Wear consistent with age and use.
