"Tired Face", Black & Gold, 2021, Sculpture with Marble Powder and Resin. Ltd.

About the Item

Born in 1992 in Macerata in the Marche region, the Italian artist carried out a path that between studies of Surveyor and Architecture led him to a long collaboration with a craft company in resin. In close contact with sculptures and design elements, the need to find himself grew stronger and stronger and give vent to his creativity. Communicating something through a work is the most important thing about the work itself, al beyond the message which at times can be more or less profound. The works from the artist alternate between social messages and pure pop, sometimes ironically. He tries to convey what his eyes see what he is surrounded by and re-elaborates it with a design that fits well with modern times: impactful and memorable. In the artist’s opinion, beauty is the feeling of recognizing something familiar, an emotion of the pleasure you feel: A part of something harmonious. This is the reason why in his works there is the study and constant search for beauty. The material he prefers at the moment is resin, which he love to experiment with by new techniques and materials to move away from the feeling of ordinary. In his words: “when we find ourselves dominating a technique after a while we have that feeling of familiarity that leads us to not to dare or in any case it stops us, shifting this balance I find myself facing each time a new challenge and this very stimulating when making art”. The sculpture is painted with a two-component paint to give greater shine and durability, the work has hand-decorated gold leaf inserts. Each piece has unique veins compared to the others of the same edition. The Artist emulates the Japanese technique of Kintsugi born from the idea that an even greater form of aesthetic and interior perfection can be born from imperfection and a wound, evoking the symbol of resilience.

Korean Glass with Gold 9 is a unique sculpture by the South Korean artist Choi Keeryong. Created from cast and cut glass combined with porcelain, the piece is finished with elegant details in gold lustre. Keeryong is a South Korean artist based in Scotland. His work is informed by his investigations into the similarities and cultural differences that we all experience in relation to the objects around us in contrast to where we live. Something he is has personally experienced living in another country. In this collection, Keeryong has developed a process using the ancient Korean ‘Saggam’ pottery technique, which allows him to explore a state of ambiguity created for the viewer’s visual experience. Using delineating geometric patterns and counterfeit letters (meaningless Korean words) he combines his glass with found English teapots...
