Viennese Art Deco Bronze Dancer by Josef Lorenzl, circa 1915/1920

About the Item

The graceful, bare dancer with short, curly hair combed back, leads, with her upper body turned to the right, her arms stretched out horizontally from the body, a dance step forward on tiptoe, keeping her head straight forward. The figure is based on an elongated oval, slightly arched bronze plinth, which is screwed onto a flat, brownish-yellow marble base with a rectangular plan. Signature 'Lorenzl' on the top of the bronze base on the back. Excellent and detailed quality of execution, very lifelike representation, as is typical of Viennese bronze art. Designed by JOSEF LORENZL (1892-1950), an Austrian sculptor. His statuettes often show graceful dancers with long legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl also designed ceramics for Friedrich Goldscheider and Keramos. He was one of the most popular artists of Art Déco. manufactured ca. 1915-1920 by a Viennese bronze manufactory Bronze modeling and casting Dimensions: total height: 36.5 cm / 14.37 in hight of figure: 34.5 cm / 13.58 in width: 29.5 cm / 11.61 in depth: 11.0 cm / 4.33 in weight: 3.680 grams / 129.53 oz / 118.32 troy oz very good condition.
