Brampton Rare Salt Glazed Stoneware Character Modelled Container

About the Item

A charming unusual and very rare antique English Brampton salt glazed container modelled as gentleman wearing a coat dating from around 1830. The stoneware container is a half-length depiction of a man in a period coat and waistcoat, the coat with a fur collar and wearing a cravat around his neck. His head forms the top with good crisp facial detail and locks of hair molded around the rim. The figure is finished in a natural salt glaze with elements of brown in the glazing and the figure is not marked. Provenance: From a collection of early English wears spanning the 18th and early 19th centuries amassed and collected in the 1920/30’s. The figure displays well and is a very rare example however it has a hairline crack to the lower section of the body and firing crack under the base.
