German Faience or Dutch Delft Powdered Manganese & Blue Large Vase & Cover

About the Item

Massive German Faience or Dutch Delft Powdered manganese & blue vase & cover, Mid-18th Century, The German faience powered manganese-ground vase, of baluster form, has a wide shoulder with sloping sides narrowing to a flared foot. To front and back are shaped leaf-shaped blue-bordered panels with depictions of scattered flowering plants on the mottled manganese ground. The cover with an acorn finial is similarly painted with two large and two smaller shaped panels. Dimensions: 18 inches high x 9 inches diameter at shoulder x foot 5 3/4 inches A set of vases with similar powdered manganese ground and the same shape finial were in the Mario Buatta: Prince of Interiors Collection sold by Sotheby's, on 23 January 2020, lot 41 with a Mallett, London, 23 June 1983 provenance.

    Repaired: Short hairline to neck and old invisible repair to the rim of the cover. On one side a small hole has been created to use the vase as a water fountain with the use of a spigot. Wear consistent with age and use.
