About the Item

Vintage Murano Glass Ashtray w/Snuffer by Galliano Ferro - has original label. This is a two piece item -- bullicante and gold polveri infused glass ashtray with gold polveri infused snuffer. This is the item for those who seek something unusual. Nice condition; we found no chips or cracks in the ashtray. However, there are some chips in the snuffer. Measurements are approximate. Please be aware that the color on your monitor and/or in your environment may look slightly different than in ours, so color is not guaranteed to be exact. Please also keep in mind that vintage glass usually will show some indication of previous ownership, such as scuffing, scratching, or wear on base. Buyers of vintage glass are presumed to understand and accept such hints of previous ownership. Feel free to send questions if you have any and we will be pleased to respond amicably.

  • Mid-Century Galliano Ferro Amber Murano Glass Bullicante Decorative Bowl, 1960s
    By Galliano Ferro
    Located in Roma, IT
Spectacular mid-century decorative bowl in amber Murano glass with air bubbles (bullicante). This wonderful piece was produced in Italy in the 1960s and is attributed to Galliano Ferro. This piece is unique for the elegant mix of peculiar "bullicante" technique to shape Murano glass: the "bullicante" effect is one of the most famous glass working techniques and is seen quite often around the island of Murano. This particular effect is achieved by inserting a piece of molten glass inside a metal mold with spikes, very similar to the texture of a pineapple. These spikes make small holes in the surface creating a pattern all around the piece of glass. After it has been allowed to cool for a few moments, the whole piece is immersed again in the molten glass. This second layer completely covers the first. However, thanks to the thick consistency of the glass, the holes previously impressed on the first layer are not covered, thus causing air to be trapped between the two layers of glass. This process can be repeated several times, creating a pattern as complicated as the master glassmaker wishes. This technique not only gives a sense of depth to the whole object but also an incomparable decorative effect, famous for its originality. This decorative piece can also be used as an ashtray and spruce up a mid-century style living room. Measurements (cm): Diameter - 14 Height - 11 Galliano Ferro formed his own glass factory in 1955 after leaving Arte Vetraria Muranese, or AVeM (A.Ve.M.), which he co-founded in 1932. Designers at Galliano Ferro include his son Giorgio Ferro, Ezio Rizzetto, Fulvio Bianconi and Vinicio Vianello. Giorgio Ferro became head of the company in 1972. British importers Jaffe Rose...

  • RARE LABELLED Galliano Ferro Murano Lilac Glass Slab Sculpture
    By Galliano Ferro
    Located in Bolton, GB
Here is a one off, rare item that you will likely never see again! A large and very heavy (2.5kg unpacked) 1950's Venetian glass sculptural slab, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. This piece was made by Galliano Ferro, and still bears the original factory label. In a stunning combination of large multicoloured millefiori canes, twisted white zanfirico filigree and coloured ribbons, and silver leaf inclusions, all on a red core and encased in a thick lilac glass slab. I'm reliably informed that this iconic item was originally on the door of a town hall in Bradford, England, in the 1950's, either as a large ornate door handle...
