Antique 19th Century German Figural Hanau Silver Overlay Decanter Bottle
About the Item
Antique Victorian German decanter bottle and figural stopper attributed to Jakob Storck & Sinsheimer. Made of 800 silver and etched glass featuring a baroque / rococo farmhouse / country landscape courting scene of figures and angels / puttis, playing trumpets and lyres for the loving couple. Circa late 1800s. Carafes such as this were used to decant port or stronger alcoholic libations.
Provenance : Jerome Schottenstein Estate, Columbus Ohio. Jerome was was an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, co-founder of Schottenstein Stores Corp. The Schottenstein family were Lithuanian immigrants who began an extensive business empire in the late 19th Century. Schottenstein Stores owns stakes in DSW and American Signature Furniture; American Eagle Outfitters, retail liquidator SB360 Capital Partners, over 50 shopping centers, and 5 factories producing its shoes and furniture.
