Art Nouveau Tile Panel Société Céramique Hasselt, Belgium, C1900
About the Item
A set of four beautiful art nouveau wall tiles in a wooden frame.
Each individual tile is approximately 8" square and is in very good to excellent condition.
The factory that made this tile: "Céramiques Décoratives de Hasselt", is founded in 1895 and made pottery and tiles in Art Nouveau style. Tiles and tile panels were used in facades of buildings and in special Art Nouveau furniture for the interior.
The tiles are pressed into a mold with plastic clay which allows the decoration to be embossed. After drying and applying the different glaze colors, the tile was fired in the over.
