Menton French Majolica (Barbotine) Trompe L'oeil wall pocket formed as hanging lemons molded in high relief with leaves and blossoms, circa 1875, the reverse with impressed mark for Joseph Saissi.
Generally referred to as "Menton," these rare pieces of Barbotine (French Majolica) were commemorative souvenirs for wealthy Victorians visiting the French Rivera.
