Georgian Mason's Ironstone Jug or Creamer in Vase & Jardiniere Ptn, circa 1817

US$760.22

About

This is a fine and rare, ironstone pottery small jug or creamer in the Vase and Jardiniere pattern, made by Mason's Ironstone, of Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England, in the George 111rd period, circa 1813 to 1820. The jug is octagonal in form with the "Fenton" shape, having a dragon loop handle. The piece is richly hand - decorated with bold enamels of cobalt blue, burnt orange, mauve, green, salmon and yellow, all in different shades and possibly over an under-glaze blue printed outline. The pattern is called; vase and jardinière and is a rare pattern usually only found on Jugs and bowls. This pattern is shown and listed on page 106 of the book; A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, published by the Mason's Collectors' Club. This creamer has the free flowing hand decoration, indicative of the earliest pieces. The piece has the MASON'S PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA" early mark, impressed in two lines to the base, indicating a very early date of 1813 to 1820. Overall a very beautiful Mason's Jug in a much sought after pattern and in great condition.
