Mason's Ironstone Large Dinner Plate in Bandana Pattern, circa 1900

About the Item

This is a very good, large dinner plate by Mason's ironstone, England in the Bandana pattern, dating to circa 1900. The Plate is circular in shape with a wavy moulded edge. This plate has one of the sought after chinoiserie patterns called "Bandana" which depicts Chinese Foo Dogs, the pattern being transfer printed in black and gold colours and then hand coloured, over glaze, in black, red and green producing a very decorative effect. This pattern is illustrated on a jug on Page 169 of Godden's Guide to Mason's China and the Ironstone Wares by Geoffrey A Godden, published by The Antique Collectors' Club. The base of the plate has an angular rounded crown mark and banner, with Mason's above and England below, all printed in black, with some impressed numbers, which relates to the pattern series. This plate dates to the end of the 19th century or very early 20th Century, circa 1900.
