'Top-Hat', Goldscheider Art Déco Dancer Posing In Tight Costume, Dakon, c 1928

About the Item

Very rare Viennese ceramic figure from the late 1920s: Young, fancy dancer in a tight costume with a shoulderless and backless top held by a pearl necklace and short harem pants, black heels on the feet, posing with a dark grey-brown top hat on her dark pageboy head, holding the brim with her left hand, the other hand braced on the hip. The figure is supported between the slender legs by a side-seated teddy bear figure with ball and is mounted on a beige square base with beveled corners and scalloped edges, shaded gray to the sides, artist's signature 'Dakon' on the back. Designed by STEPHAN DAKON (1904 - 1992), one of the most important designers who worked for the Goldscheider manufactory from 1924 until the mid-fifties.
