Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Tea Tray by Walter & John Barnard
About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver two handled tea tray by Walter & John Barnard; an addition to our silver tray collection.
This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver tea tray has an oval form.
The surface of the tray is encircled with exceptional bright cut engraved decoration depicting eight circular leaf festoon bordered panels, separated by pensile leaf sprays.
Each panel depicts a fine and impressive alternating floral spray designs with gourd ornamentation, in addition to floral and foliate designs to the lower portion.
The decoration to the surface of the tray incorporates a shaped vacant cartouche to the centre.
The raised rounded border of the tray is encircled with fine and impressive applied bead decoration to the rim.
This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted with a fine and impressive pair of cast sterling silver handles ornamented with leaf terminals and further bead decoration to the handpieces.
This exceptional Victorian silver tray was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Walter & John Barnard.
Condition
This antique Victorian silver tray is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition, in keeping with age.
The chased and applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration has sympathetic wear in keeping with age.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the tray are all very clear.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Victorian silverware.
