French Vintage Decorative Platter by Albert Thiry 'circa 1960s'

About the Item

Mid-century platter (circa 1960s) by Albert Thiry. A milky-white glaze graces the outer portion of the decorative surface. The inner decor is abstract, incised with a dark chocolate brown and white stylised foliage motif. Although it is not Thiry's typical colour scheme, his trademark rustic ceramic style is clearly evident. In good overall condition. Unsigned (as are many of his pieces) but attributed to Thiry. This gallery finds that Thiry's works are in demand more than ever in overdue recognition of his artistic creativity. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video will be provided. About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian. Dimensions: Height 5.5 cm / 2.2" Diameter 40 cm / 15.7".
