Derby Dolphin & Shell Molded Porcelain Butter Boat Circa 1770

About the Item

A fine antique Georgian English porcelain Dolphin and Shell molded butter boat by Derby and dating from around 1770. The small jug shaped vessel stands raised on a round pedestal base with a molded scroll work body and with a raised large pouring spout and ornate handle. The butter boat is hand painted in blue on a white ground with small leafy sprigs and other patterning. The butter boat is not marked. For a similar example please see the Victoria & Albert Museum Collection. In good condition with light age wear with a small firing mark to the inside base.
