Amazing Early 19C Davenport Longport Imari China Dinner Service

About the Item

PRESENTING an AMAZING, EXTREMELY RARE and EXTENSIVE Early 19C Davenport Longport Imari China Dinner Service from circa 1805-1820. HIGH REGENCY PERIOD/ERA. This is WITHOUT A DOUBT, the finest (and probably largest) Dinner Service we have EVER seen! It numbers 175 pieces in total! It was MOST DEFINITELY, made for one of the large Manor Houses in the UK, during the Reign of George III (Very Downton Abbey-esque!) We are of the opinion that it was ‘custom’ made by Davenport for it’s original owner, probably a Baron, Baroness, Lord, Lady, Duke or Duchess ….. take your pick of ‘nobility’! Just consider the Dinner Party, where you would need over 60 Dinner Plates. It is easy to conclude that this service, being over 200 years old, has suffered some losses over the centuries and could very easily have been a 100 piece dinner service when originally produced. The pattern and style, is an homage to ‘Japanese Imari Style China”, with it’s classic Imari cobalt blue, green, orange and pink floral designs/patterns, all accentuated by GORGEOUS 24k gold gilt work. What makes this particular pattern and service SO RARE and OUTSTANDING is the incorporation of royal/sky blue patterns/panels/chevrons, on all pieces. You could search all your life and not find this pattern …. ‘let alone’ a Service of 175 pieces. We are of the opinion, that the use and addition of the ‘royal blue’ chevrons on this service, could also indicate that this service was quite possibly, originally made, for a member of the ‘British Royal family’. Provenance: From a Private Collection in Houston, TX. The service was originally purchased by an ancestor, from Cains Inc. (High-End Dealers) in Bossier City, LA in 1979 for a ‘SUBSTANTIAL’ sum. We possess the receipt. Condition: Mainly in very good original condition. The largest game platter has a historic repair (metal staples) and one open tureen has a crack and historic repair. One small lidded tureen has a replacement handle and some repairs to stand for large lidded tureen/centerpiece. Some other pieces has very minor losses and one or two repairs but, otherwise this Service is in ‘VERY GOOD’ condition for it’s age and use. The large lidded tureen centerpiece, is worth around $12,000, on it’s own. A similar, single medium sized Tureen, but not this pattern (with the Royal Blue), would cost you over $3,500 and a single Plate around $500. Now do the math! LOL

  • 19C Irish Georgian Style Secretary Bookcase
    Located in Dallas, TX
PRESENTING a STUNNING 19C Irish Georgian Style Secretary Bookcase. From circa 1850-60 and most definitely, “IRISH”. Made of gorgeous flamed Cuban mahogany which would have been imported from the British Colonies at the end of the 18th Century and early 19th Century. This piece of is of IMPRESSIVE PROPORTIONS ….. it is a real STATEMENT piece and EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY ! It has a very ‘Regency Style’ pelmet or crown with egg and dart moldings under a very straight line crown. The top section consists of a 4 door bookcase, each with 3 shelving areas. It appears to retain it’s original glass, but it could likewise have been replaced at some time during it’s long life, as it is very rare to find pieces that have not suffered breakages over 150+ years. Each bookcase door still retains the original moldings to the front with a star shape above and below a central circular viewing panel. Each section is separated by a carved and fluted roman column/pillar. The bookcase section rests on top of the base, which consists of a beautiful central secretaire desk accessed by drop down front with working lock and key and rests on 2 pull out rests on either side. The secretary portion has a central tabernacle, with an inlaid oval satinwood medallion above another scallop shell drawer. It has 6 smaller drawers and 8 cubbies. The 2 pillars on either side of the central tabernacle are secret drawers and pull out. The curved crowns above the cubbies on either side are likewise secret drawers and pull out. Either side of the secretary there are 2 drawers (4 total) with a press or cupboard underneath. Under the secretary there are 4 large central drawers. The brasses and hardware are all original to the piece (save 2 extra hinges that have been attached to the drop down secretary to give it more support and stability. Again, each section is separated by a turned and fluted column/pillar which replicates the 2 side pillars to the central tabernacle of the secretary. The piece sits on 8 curved feet. This was an extremely high quality piece when made. This is also supported by the fact that the secondary woods are also mahogany and not pine or oak for slightly lesser quality pieces of the era. This piece is specifically identifiable as an Irish Georgian Style piece by virtue of the scallop shell moldings on the base side presses (see photos). Irish Georgian furniture...

  • 19C Aquatint Engraving of the Quay at Waterford
    Located in Dallas, TX
Presenting a lovely 19C Aquatint Engraving of the Quay at Waterford in Waterford city in Ireland. This engraving has been hand embellished with aquatint color(s) and is from Ireland circa 1820-40. It features a scene of the Quay or Port of Waterford from circa 1820. We are basing this upon the attire of the figures in the engraving and the tall ships. It features Reginald’s Tower (still located at the Waterford Quay to this day). Georgian Quay buildings, a number of moored tall ships and row boats, barrels, horses and carts, women and British soldiers. The engraving was professionally reframed and matted in Dallas in the 1980’s and the rear of the frame says that it was “Museum Mounted and Matted”. The frame has a lovely Grecian pattern around the front. If you are Irish...
