Black, Starr & Frost, 2-handled, sterling silver bar tray (with heavy gauge) in Art Nouveau style with the border chased with foliate swags, flowers, and other beautiful motifs. It measures 30 1/4'' in length from handle to handle (26'' within) by 20 1/2'' in width by 1 5/8'' in height, weighs 151.3 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks and a monogram as shown.
The oldest continuously operating jewelry firm in the United States, Black, Starr & Frost also produced objects in silver. Already in 1860, the company received an order for more than $12,000 of jewelry and silverware from Edward, Prince of Wales. In 1929, Black, Starr & Frost merged with Gorham Corporation, and was renamed Black, Starr, Frost-Gorham.
