Pair of Swedish Sterling Silver Plique-a-jour Viking Ship Salt Cellars & Spoons

About the Item

This pair of sterling and enameled salt cellars and spoons was made in Sweden in circa 1925 in the Modernist style. The pair of salt cellars are figural Viking longboats which have been ornately crafted with dragon heads on either end and which have been masterfully enameled with a technique known as plique-a-jour which results in the enamel finish to be translucent. The sides of the longboats are done in forest green and amber with two small blue shields on either side of the dragons on both the front and back. The sterling spoons have deep purple plique-a-jour bowls with green centers which look comparable to church stained glass windows when held to the light. The spoons have very tastefully executed looped handles accented by the twists of the loop and finished with a small ball. The boats are clearly hallmarked with the Three crowns of Sweden followed by "925" designating the sterling silver content followed by a stylized trident which is likely the maker, which has not been identified.
