Swiss Silver Covered Tureen by Baltensperger, circa 1920s
About the Item
A very fine quality handmade Swiss sterling silver covered tureen, of circular form, with hand-hammered cover and base, both of which have decorative ribbing, with oval loop handle on the cover and flattened scrolled strap handles and feet. Signed Baltensperger. 55.33 troy ounces. This piece is weighty, with no expense spared in its materials or craftsmanship. Baltensperger was a high end silversmithy in Zurich which is no longer in operation. This piece is a 1930s, interpretation of a Baroque form and would be beautiful as a centerpiece on a dining table, sideboard or center table, as well as a spectacular serving dish. It also is very beautiful with a floral arrangement in it.
