Wedgwood Black Basalt Teapot

About the Item

This is a very good example of a Wedgwood (signed) late 18th century Black Basalt Teapot. The Teapot is in overall very good condition and features a band of putti ringing the body of the pot; engine turning at the base and a figural finial. Wedgwood ventured into many kinds of wares like Jasper, Black Basalt was one of the best productions he had engineered and has stood the test of time. Black Basalt was developed in 1768 and has turned out to be very successful commercially. In its early years, the Wedgwood factory was flooded with orders for Black Basalt ware and struggled to meet the soaring demand Black Basalt. The 18th Century ladies, particularly loved the contrast the Black Basalt created against their white hands.
