Unique work of art with a Rhode Island origin.
A romantic composition of a family executed in a hand carved and hand painted one-of-a-kind settle or bench painting and pyrography on wood attributed to the circle of Lawrence Pennington, early 20th century, Warwick, Rhode Island.
This is a beautiful early 20th century bench all hand incised and hand painted and dating to the early part of the last century. Each panel is masterfully hand incised and hand painted with appealing family and floral motifs.
Handmade, hand carved, pyrographic , stained and hand painting techniques.
Signed ERU on right front forward edge
Dimensions: 56 inches high and 50.25 inches wide and 19 inches deep
Provenance: Thirty year old New England collection.
History of the Pyrography:
py·rog·ra·phy, a noun, is the art or technique of decorating wood or leather by burning a design on the surface with a heated metallic point. Pyrography was particular popular in America and Europe during the last quarter of the 19th century and first quarter of the 20th century.
