About the Item
For sale a very rare and highly collectable Mid-Century Modernist, Model 201 telescopic Table/Floor Lamp designed by Giuseppe Ostuni for O’Luce, Milano in c.1955.
The design comprises a cream lacquered base, pivoting lower stem & shade and a chrome telescopic upper stem with cow-horn shaped adjusting handle, allowing the light to be used either as a table lamp or a floor lamp. The shade carries an on/off switch and the lamp is in good working order.
Giuseppe Ostuni, who founded Oluce in 1945, was one of the most important contributors to the Italian lighting landscape and remains one of the most collectable designers of his generation. Oluce is the oldest Italian design company still operating in the lighting world and alongside Stilnovo, Arteluce and Arredoluce, remains one of the most iconic lighting companies to have flourished in 1950s Italy.
The lamp is in good vintage condition, with general wear, commensurate with 60+ years of age and use. Of note, the lacquer finish on the stem has worn thin in places, there’s a tiny protruding dent to the back of the shade and the lower part of the lower stem has a slight bend to it.
