Louis XVI Gilt-Wood Barometer & Thermometer, France c. 1780

About the Item

A Louis XVI Period Barometer & Thermometer Combination, originating in France & dating from the last quarter of the 18th century. The workings enclosed by a gilt-wood case with carved designs of foliage & a tied bow capping the thermometer shaft. The Barometer & Thermometer both no longer in working condition, but retaining their original glass fronts, tubing, & painted gauges. The charts are elegantly inscribed with atmospheric 'conditions' in French.

    Repaired: Repairs and touchups made as needed. Wear consistent with age and use. Fine antique condition, with minor wear and touch-up to the gilt decoration, and without significant damage or restoration to the carved gilt-wood frame. The innards for both instruments present, but no longer in working condition.
