Pair of 19th Century English J & W Cary Celestial/Terrestrial Table Model Globes

About the Item

A fine assembled pair of 12-inch English table model globes on stands manufactured by J & W. Cary, the left globe with cartouche labeled “The New Celestial Globe, on which are correctly laid down over 3500 stars Selected from the most accurate observations and calculated for the year 1800, with the extent of each constellation precisely defined by Mr. Gilpin of the Royal Society, Made & Sold by J. & W. Cary, Strand London, Jan 1, 1816,” and the right globe with cartouche labeled “Carey’s New Terrestrial Globe, delineated from the best Authorities extants, Exhibiting the different tracks of Captain Cook. and the New Discoveries made by him and other circumnavigators, London, made and sold by J.W. Cary, Strand, Jan.1, 1812." Each globe is presented on a mahogany tripod stand with vertical brass engraved meridian ring and a horizontal wooden ring with calendar and zodiac applied paper labeling. Very good overall condition with some surface repairs, losses, and restorations. Dimensions: Globes: 25” height x 12” diameter globes, 16.5” diameter overall with rings.
