Maharam Pillow Fruit by Hella Jongerius 007 Russet Fruit combines a desire to portray the imperfections of nature with a graphic approach that emphasizes color and form. Hella Jongerius invokes her interest in creating individuality in mass production through a playful representation of imperfectly round "fruit". A solid oval is transformed by perforated and textured overlays, creating effects of depth and transparency that contrast with density of a solid-colored ground. Simulating craft-like variation, Fruit's motifs seem as if block-printed by hand, with visual layers that align imperfectly and soft edges that bleed slightly. An end-and-end warp construction enables this fine detail. Founded in 1902, Maharam offers a comprehensive collection of textiles for commercial and residential interiors. Maharam pillows feature celebrated textile designs from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, from re-editions of the work of Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard and Verner Panton to recent collaborations with Hella Jongerius, Paul Smith, Scholten & Baijings, and Studio Job. Hella Jongerius (b. 1963, the Netherlands) is an industrial designer working from her Berlin-based studio, Jongeriuslab. Since graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven (the Netherlands) in 1993, Jongerius has fused industry to craft, high technology to low, and tradition to the contemporary by reintroducing an artisanal hand to the industrial process throughout her work with furniture, ceramics, and textiles. The Dutch design collective Droog produced much of her early work, while later she developed in-depth relationships with companies such as Vitra, IKEA, Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory and the Japanese design firm Cibone. 55% cotton, 32% nylon, 13% post-consumer recycled polyester.
