Antique Signed French Art Deco Rug with Earth Tones

About the Item

A rare antique French Art Deco rug, signed DTC, with a specular horizontal pattern composed of monochrome compartments beginning in ivory and ending in dark brown, with contours ranging from simple lines to zig-zag motifs. The earth tone palette seems to derive from that of African textiles and Moroccan rugs, both of which were being collected at the time by Parisian designers, proving to be a huge inspiration in rug design during the Art Deco years. Published: 'Les Années Folles' - Art Deco & European Avant-Garde Carpets 1920-1940, Textilia/Doris Leslie Blau, Rome 1998, p. 51. Provenance: Doris Leslie Blau, New York; Nilufar, Milano.

A rare, stunning identical pair of period antique French Art Deco rugs, decorated at both ends by abstract diagonal motifs in two tones of brown against an ivory background. Rugs of this type were commissioned during the Art Deco era to architects/designers, and were often part of an elaborate interior decoration project. It's quite a unique chance in the world of rugs to be able to source an intact pair of such weavings. The natural earth tones of these examples offer a great opportunity to own a pair of Art...
