French Aubusson Wool Tapestry Rug 'Mine Orange' by Claude Loewer 1970

About the Item

Born in Switzerland in 1917, Claude Loewer was one of the main artists who translated the language of abstract painting to that of textile art. His work is present in numerous private and public collections, among which the Centre National d'Art Contemporain and the Mobilier National in Paris. 'Mine Orange' was woven in 1970 at the prestigious Atelier Raymond Picaud in Aubusson, France. It was commissioned by Galerie Verriere of Lyon in a planned edition of four examples, of which this is the first. It is signed 'Claude Loewer' and monogrammed 'Atelier Raymond Picaud.'
