Lady chair in green velvet by Marco Zanuso for Arflex

About the Item

The armchair features a completely new green velvet fabric. It is important to remember that Zanuso was inspired by the automotive design method [source-less] for the creation of the armchair, representing the various parts that compose it separately. By doing so, all the structural elements are integrated into the whole consisting of the seat, back and armrests, creating a homogeneous and complete upholstery. Over the years, the armchair has remained virtually unchanged in aesthetics, then becoming a sought-after object over time. The lady armchair is identified by a new construction system, based on the concept whereby it is possible to transform the armchair from a single structure, on which the upholstery is applied and shaped, into a piece of furniture consisting of smaller, flat and more manageable elements that can be upholstered and assembled before they are put together. This process facilitates the possibility of series work with the application of subsequent specialized operations by making elastic parts that are molded, upholstered cut and sewn by machine, and finally pocketed.

  • Pair of Elettra Chair in green velvet by BBPR for Arflex
    Located in Milano, Lombardia
The Elettra armchair, designed by B.B.P.R. for Arflex, has a black tubular and poplar plywood frame, shaped polyurethane padding with differentiated density and polyester fiber, springing on elastic belts, and a completely removable fabric or fixed leather cover. B.B.P.R. are Gian Luigi Banfi, Ludovico Barbiano di Belgiojoso, Enrico Peressutti and Ernesto Nathan Rogers, who, after graduating in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic, founded a firm in the 1930s that mainly carried out urban planning projects in the wake of Rationalism and the lesson of the master Le Corbusier. During the war Banfi and Belgiojoso will be deported to the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp, from which the former will never return, but the group will never change its name. Among the many public and private buildings designed by the firm, the famous Torre Velasca in Milan stands out (even in height!). In the early 1950s B...
