Midcentury Italian Black and White Armchairs with Metal Bases, G. Frattini, Pair

About the Item

Pair of Italian midcentury, wildly stylish tall back lounge chairs of aerodynamic design with original angular nickeled iron bases and original Naugahyde tufted sides, attributed to Gianfraco Frattini. The backrest and seats upholstered in a funky black and white check chenille fabric. Functional, practical and comfortable. There is a very small, barely visible, repaired old tear on one side panel, shown in photo #8. Commensurate with age, the base has the original nickel plating which shows some wear.

    Reupholstered. Wear consistent with age and use. Back and seat were reupholstered a while ago, side panels are original. As already noted, there is a very small, barely visible, repaired old tear on one side panel, shown in photo #8.

    An important and rare pair of original French Art Deco period cubist arm chairs of simple and very elegant design. The warm brown finished rosewood is exceptionally well-figured and trimmed with a thin nickeled bronze decorative banding all around the base and overall. Since these chairs are finished on all three sides, they can be placed freestanding in the middle of a room featuring a beautiful back. Antique hob nails as welting surround the caramel colored upholstered leather. Futuristic, clean and architectural lines grace this pair of side chairs and read like art but are made for everyday use and enjoyment. Attrib to : Decoration Interieure Modernes- Rene Joubert ( 1878-1931) et Philippe Petit ( 1900-1945 ) for DIM The chairs are of medium scale and have a firm but comfortable seat, arm as well as backrest. There are a few almost undiscernible antique repairs on the wood and some small, unnoticeable light scratches/ scuffs on the upholstery. There is a small space between the seat and the back rest.     A fine pair of Austrian Secessionist bentwood chairs for a salon / living room, office, bedroom, foyer... in walnut stained beechwood with upholstered seat and back. Designed by Koloman Moser: March 30, 1868 – October 18, 1918 Manufactured by J & J Kohn in 1910 Geometric arms and square back rests complement the sweeping curved surround featuring horizontal slat design which decorates the chair backs. Austere planes and strict geometry typical of the Wiener Werkstätte are featured on this pair of armchairs. Elegantly curved and straight edged wooden elements provide Stark architectural planes, timelessness, comfort and beauty. The set's upholstery was from Backhausen, the famous, high end textile house that has been in business since 1849 and made fabric for these original designers during the period.
