Pair of 19th Century French Armchairs
US$5,000

About
This is a pair of armchairs made in France, circa 1880. The chairs are made of solid rosewood. Each chair has beautiful hand carving of the finest quality. The chairs have a highly shaped back. The arms, the side of the chair frame and the serpentine front to the chair seat are also highly shaped. The upholstery appears to be original and is in excellent overall condition (there is some wear on the arm pads, however, they are sound and very usable). All of the hand carvings are deeply carved floral motifs. The legs are a fabulous example of a French shaped leg at it's finest. There is a very unusual and stunningly beautiful brass molding the follows the shape of the chair from the feet, through the legs, around the chair frame, up the back uprights and around the entire back. The finish and overall physical condition are extremely good. These are the very best of the best. They measure 28 1/4 in. wide x 24 in. deep x 40 in. tall with a seat height of 17 1/2 in.
