Pair of Napoleon III Upholstered Armchairs in Ebonized & Burl Walnut, circa 1870
About the Item
A beautiful pair of Napoleon III armchairs with walnut frame with burled walnut and ebonized details. Shield-back has carved laurel leaves with a cartouche over the crest rail with finials on the corners. Chairs have an upholstered back and seat, and rest on turned and splayed legs, with original porcelain casters on the front. Scrolled arms meet the seat midway, a design feature that would have provided greater comfort by allowing space for the voluminous dresses worn at the time, France, circa 1870.
