17th Century William and Mary Period Oak Armchair c. 1690
Located in Heathfield, GB
A beautifully shaped William and Mary oak armchair with well carved horse-bone legs and arm supports, scrolled feet and handsomely carved front stretcher with S scrolls and geometric motif. The tall upholstered back over spiral turned legs and original spiral and bulb turned stretchers. In very good condition for age with some small old dings, some old woodworm, long long dead and a couple of small very old repairs - not affecting structure. The chair is extremely comfortable and solid with a good width between the arms, deep well padded seat and gentle rake to the padded back. Upholstered in a moss green high quality velvet with matching fringed braid in very good condition also. A really beautiful and rather rare early chair of generous proportions all made by hand in c. 1690. The oak has developed an excellent dark and rich colour throughout. Italian Baroque Period 17th Century Walnut Armchair with Carved X-Form Stretcher
Located in Atlanta, GA
An Italian Baroque period walnut armchair from the 17th century, with slanted back, large scrolling arms, turned legs and carved X-Form cross-stretcher. This Italian Baroque period walnut armchair, originating from the 17th century, is a magnificent piece that embodies the grandeur and ornate style of the Baroque era. The chair features a slanted back, which not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but also provides comfortable support. The large scrolling arms are a defining feature, showcasing the elaborate and dramatic design typical of Baroque furniture. The chair's turned legs are a testament to the skilled craftsmanship of the period, with each leg intricately designed to add both stability and visual interest. The carved X-Form cross-stretcher further enhances the chair's structural integrity and adds an additional element of artistic flair. This cross-stretcher not only serves a functional purpose but also contributes to the overall decorative scheme of the chair. While the upholstery is in used condition, it adds a sense of authenticity and history to the piece, telling a story of its journey through time. The seat height of 18.5 inches, a seat depth of 20 inches, and an arm height of 27.75 inches ensure comfortable seating, making this chair not only a piece of art but also a functional item of furniture. In a modern home, this Baroque armchair could be used as a statement piece in a living room, study, or library. Its historical significance and stunning design make it a focal point, ideal for those who appreciate the beauty and history of antique furniture...
