Missa Chair in Leather and Wood by Pedro Paulo Venzon

About the Item

Missa chair (2015) creation arose with the purpose of working with Brazilian colonial architecture’s visibilities and forms, notably marked by a closure with memoirs (traditions), and unique simplicity. The goal of this chair was rethinking the Portuguese/Brazilian tradition of the first architecture, and its contemporary lines, in the lines of a design object. Made in Brazil, the pieces are painstakingly carved by hand by craftsman’s without the use of computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Each piece is unique. About Pedro Paulø-Venzon Pedro Paulo Venzon is a designer who has produced objects and artefacts, and whose concern is to create pieces that arise from a decolonial reading of the discussions surrounding contemporary and modem design in Brazil. Since 2011, when he finished his academic studies, he has received important prizes in both Brazilian and international scenario. In 2016 he was a finalist in the Officine Panerai Next Generation Designer, and in 2017 he took part in the Handmade Issue (expo + publication), both promoted by Wallpaper Magazine. There is currently engagement with the production of syntheses between the authorial and Industrial, the local and the global, between tradition and its displacements.

Standardized, but not standardized. exists a frame, but creating a new frame from there. called the same, built can be different. TWO-BY SERIES is works made by stacking layers of structural wood called two-by SPUSE. Just like stone masonry, standardized two-by woods repeats stacking. Through the repetitive process, it is reminiscent of the work technique of abstract painting that returns to the basics of the structure (dot-line-surface) and approaches the pure sculpture of the material. They are reinterpreted in the natural pure form of the material across the function. The purpose of use is no longer important. The way to utilize them found in the construction site is to minimize the demand for function and to realize the beauty of free form. Dimension: 39 cm x 28 cm x 147 cm H. Additional info: The wooden box is included in the price. TWO-BY SERIES is made by stacking layers of structural wood called SPUSE.
