Rare 19th Century Tavern, or Clerks, Chair

About the Item

An extremely rare mid-19th century English country Tavern chair, or high clerks chair, having elegant Turned upright spindles to bowed back over Superbly figured saddle shaped seat raised On elegant tall turned legs and stretchers (Every now and again we come across something we absolutely love and of a design which we have not come  across before. This chair is exactly that. The overall design is typical of a mid-19th century smokers bow, or captains, chair but of course it stands on much taller than normal  legs. It is almost certainly not a Childs high chair as the  width and depth dimensions would mean any small child sitting in it would get be lost. It is certainly a chair made for adults to sit in and we bought it simply because we love the overall quality, uniqueness, design, patina and colour.  It would of course now make the most perfect focal and  talking point in any room with no doubt every person that sees it intrigued as to what it's original use could have been. From a functional point of view we think there are  many places it could be used, but it would certainly work well at a tall desk, modern kitchen breakfast bar/island  or even pulled up to a home bar. It would also be a good  addition to a games room or similar.)  circa 1860 Measures: Height - 41in Width - 25in Depth - 25in Seat height - 28in.
