Eight Antique Chinese Thomas Chippendale Style Victorian Carved Dining Chairs

About the Item

We are delighted to offer this suite of eight important Victorian Chinese Chippendale Georgian style dining chairs circa 1880 These chairs are very well made, important pieces of classic English Georgian furniture after the originals by Thomas Chippendale. A period suite by the great man himself would sell for middle hundreds of thousands if they ever came up for auction, most surviving sets are in important private or prestigious museum collections. These chairs are Victorian examples, made using the same methods, hand carved from top to bottom, anyone who knows anything about fine English furniture will recognise these for exactly what they are They are in a hard fruitwood which is exceptionally heavy, they weigh approximately double what you would expect them to based on the size. The seat platforms are upholstered with vintage Damask, I would recommend the new owner to have them reupholstered and the seat pads restuffed, they are all fine but showing their age somewhat Condition wise, we have cleaned waxed and polished them from top to bottom, they have normal age and use related patina marks here and there as you would expect from 140+ year old pieces. There are one or two missing pieces of carving on the side of a couple of the chairs, a few nicks here and there, I can have them fully restored should the new owner wish for the cost price Dimensions Height:- 98cm Width:- 59cm standard chairs, 66.5cm carvers Depth:- 62.5cm Seat height:- 49cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Pulborough warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
