Jacob Kjaer, Adjustable Teak Lounge Chair, Denmark, 1945
About the Item
Adjustable teak lounge chair, by Jacob Kjaer, Denmark, circa 1945.
A lounge chair by Danish cabinet maker and modernist pioneer, Jacob Kjaer, designed in 1945. Handmade in teak with the original black dyed leather. The leather has a beautiful texture and patina.
Characterized by simplicity, Kjaer's designs drew on the finest materials which, unusually for his day, he crafted himself.
Inspired by classical English Style, his clean designs are modern in interpretation. He enhanced the reputation of the Danish furniture industry as president of the Cabinetmakers Guild from 1952 to 1957 and of the Arts and Crafts Committee for Exports from 1944 to 1957.
Jacob Kjaer also executed furniture designs for other designers such as Flemming Lassen, Sigvard Bernadotte, Borge Mogensen, Grete Jalk, and Kindt Larsen.
