Queen Anne Period Walnut Wing Armchair

About the Item

An Exceptional Early 18th Century, Queen Anne Period Walnut Wing Back Library Armchair, Having Elegant Shaped Sides, Over Bold Scrolling Arms And Bowfront Seat, Raised On Fabulous Hipped Carbriole Legs Front And Back. Generally English wing armchairs don’t come much earlier, or much more charming than this particular example. Dating to the early 18th century, the show wood is walnut, which has retained a lovely colour and patina. The wing chair also boasts incredibly elegant cabriole legs to both front, and unusually back, alongside its lovely scrolling shape. As can be seen from the images attached it has been relatively recently upholstered in quite a bold, striking, modern fabric, which was at the specific request of a previous owner, and this could be relatively easily and economically changed should one require a more traditional finish to the fabric. We do actually think that the current fabric creates quite a nice contrast however. The frame itself is in excellent condition and whilst the legs have clearly had historice worm and scrapes etc this has all been cleaned up and sorted a long time ago, with no sign of anything like this present now. There are also no issues in terms of structural integrity, it is very solid indeed. As with all items which we offer for sale this chair has been inspected in our workshops, by our trained antique furniture restorers, where it has been treated, cleaned and tidied for anything which required attention and then received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale. Circa 1710. Height 43in. Width 33.5in. Depth 30in. Seat Height 15.5in without cushion. Seat Height 20.5in with cushion.
