About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning Postbox red leather Georgian Porters wingback armchair, circa 1780. A very good looking and highly decorative piece. This is an original Georgian circa 1780 armchair, the seat platform is all coil sprung, the leather individually hand nail tacked in place, the frame is solid mahogany and is what's called a Georgian H-frame meaning if you lay the chair down and look at the frame it looks like the letter H. The front legs are nicely tapered It has been lightly restored to include a deep clean, hand condition wax and hand polish. The timber frame has centuries of patina which looks glorious, the leather is vintage hide which has a rich grain, it has some patina marks as well and some leather indentations here and there Original Porters chairs like this from the Georgian era are very rare, this has a lot of small details which when you add them up really make this chair a tour de force of style and design Dimensions: Height 111cm Width 75.5cm Depth 80cm Seat height 49cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
