Le Corbusier, P. Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand LC20 Casier Standard by Cassina

About the Item

Casier designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand in 1925. Manufactured by Cassina in Italy. The Casiers standard formed part of a project for residential furniture by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret for the Pavillon de l’Esprit Nouveau at the Paris Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in 1925. Here, the cousins Jeanneret went beyond the traditional concept of furniture, introducing these modular storage units, alongside a number of other movable pieces. Unique and timeless, conceived to confer an architectural look to their environment, these units could accommodate a wide array of objects in a particular context, even going so far as to create partition walls. The Casiers standard were relaunched in 2016, with a more contemporary look. Enhanced so as to be more versatile and functional than ever before, they are available in eighteen fixed compositions. These are based on a 75 x 75 x 37.5cm module that contains shelves, each of these featuring five height options; legs are supplied in two versions: four slim-line chromed pilotis, or two painted round pedestal bases. In October 1927, the pair decided to draw on the contribution of a young architect who had already begun to establish a reputation on the architectural scene of the time: Charlotte Perriand. Their collaboration lasted through to 1937 and was extremely fruitful, especially in the field of furniture design. The partnership was highly significant, both in terms of the cultural weight of their achievements and their professional successes. It was together with Charlotte Perriand that the pair tackled the innovative project for “l’équipement d'intérieur de l’habitation”. The resulting designs were of great intellectual value and considerable commercial success. About the manufacturer: In a continuing dialogue between past, present, and future, Cassina has created the I Maestri collection, revisiting furnishing designs by the 20th century’s best-known architects, including Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, Franco Albini, Frank Lloyd Wright and Marco Zanuso. While the designs and functional concepts have been precisely preserved, the models have been manufactured using evolved technology. This is also the company that has manufactured iconic pieces of contemporary design from the 1950s to the present day, ideated by some of the most important international designers. Today Cassina continues to look to the future of design with audacious, passionate curiosity and an open, holistic approach. It affirms its exclusive ability to furnish a home’s living and dining spaces completely and iconically with The Cassina Perspective: a concept, a philosophy, an informed, futuristic thought. A detailed, expansive horizon of combinations; when placed together, the products have an innovative soul and the modern icons create authentic, welcoming, personal atmospheres involved in a conversation dominated by a code of design excellence, formal sensitive awareness, solidity and cultural authority.
