19th Century Swedish Country Pine Bureau Clock Cabinet

About the Item

Antique bureau clock cabinet from northern Sweden. The cabinet is dated 1863 but is likely older than that, from around 1840 to 1860. A good example of old ingenuity and compact living this piece combines three functions in one – clock, desk and cabinet. Made in pine and dry scraped by hand to the original paint with authentic patina and genuine distress. The clock face is wood and the mechanism is unusually old-fashioned with only one clock hand. The paint on the clock face was renovated during the early 1900s. Height to desk top is 65 cm. The bureau and clock are 97 cm and 133 cm tall respectively.

Unusual Swedish pine cabinet made by hand around the mid 1800s. The cabinet has an unusual model for the area and time it was made and it has never been painted or treated. The surface of the pine has been allowed to age and gain patina naturally for almost 200 years. Giving it the unmistakable warm patina it has today. The cabinet has a working lock and key. The door is integrated to the frame of the cabinet and disappear almost seamlessly into the front, with only the key that stands out. The style of the cabinet is very reminiscent of the 1930s Swedish Grace furniture...
