Prince Howard French Provincial Hollywood Regency Antique White Dresser Credenza

About the Item

Magnificent French Provincial or Hollywood Regency style antiqued or cerused white dresser or credenza by the Prince Howard Furniture Company. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. This piece does have a light spot in the finish on its top due to fading from something setting in the same place for many years. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960’s. Note: We have other matching French Provencial pieces listed here for sale by Prince Howard Company if they are still available. “Quelle BELLE commode!” That’s French for “What a BEAUTIFUL dresser!” This is a GORGEOUS dresser or credenza made by the Prince Howard Furniture Company in Kansas City, Missouri. It is the epitome of French Provencial but works so beautifully with an eclectic or Hollywood Regency decor!! Comprised of white antiqued or cerused wood with a Bombay style front hosting 6 drawers with carved design details and antiqued painted metal hardware, more elegant carvings at the base, and short cabriole legs with carved Queen Anne Provencial Bun feet. The darker areas of the wood give off a slight green hue… it’s stunning. French Provincial blends Rococo, Rustic and French countryside styles and imbues any room with an air of elegance. And this dresser or credenza is no exception to that… It will be incredible with purely ornate French Provencial décor, Hollywood Regency, or even a Boho Chic bedroom, dining area, or living room or in juxtaposition mixed with your modern and mid-century modern pieces. We fell in love with it the moment we saw it and know you have too. Call it a dresser, call it a credenza, but whatever you call it… You simply MUST call it yours! • American of Martinsville Accord Walnut & Cane Dresser & Bachelor’s Chest w/ X’s
By Merton Gershun, American of Martinsville
    Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome pair of chests from American of Martinsville and Merton Gershun’s Accord line of furniture with the signature X’s and asymmetric handles. One is the long walnut dresser with three drawers and cane doors and the second is the three-drawer bachelor’s chest. Two separate pieces but butted together make one long marvelous piece. We are pricing them as a set. Both are in wonderful restored condition. However, they are not without signs of age and use having an overall beautiful age patina which includes small nicks, scratches, and imperfections but nothing major. Please see photos, circa mid-20th century. Oh my! If you could ever say X marks the spot for a piece of furniture…you can say it with this pair. Note the metal signature crosses in their tops and their fabulous asymmetric or staggered handles. These gorgeous chests are from the Accord collection produced in the mid-20th century by American of Martinsville and designed by Merton Gershun. One piece is the longer dresser which is comprised of a bank of three drawers next to three doors with cane inserts. One door opens to the left and the other two doors bi-fold open to the right revealing three interior drawers. This dresser alone is wonderful but paired with the matching bachelor’s chest, which has the same bank of three drawers as the dresser, and butted next to the doors, making it one extra long cabinet...

Edward procured a loan and converted the factory to make cedar chests and named it The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. Sales were good and the company expanded. But during WWI, with the banning of rail freight deemed non-essential, they began making pine ammunition boxes. This is notable as it led to an assembly line which was revolutionary and became the first moving conveyor assembly system in the furniture industry. After the war, with sales still increasing, Ed Lane decided he could risk giving the company his name and changed it to The Lane Co...
