  • Baroque Gilt Wood Console Table, Southern Germany 18th Century
    Located in Belmont, MA
This original 18th century Baroque console table stands out for its finely carved gilt wood details. It is the perfect little eye catcher for a smaller entryway. It comes in original condition with the expected wear and tear and some retouches from earlier restorations and measures H 29.53 x W 25.99 x D 13.78 inches (H 75 cm x W 66 cm x D 35 cm). During the 17th century, the Baroque style had a marked effect upon furniture design throughout western Europe. Large wardrobes, cupboards, and cabinets had twisted columns, broken pediments, and heavy moldings. The Baroque style was adopted in the Low Countries in the 1620s and extended late into the 17th century, when Germany and England began to develop it. In southern Germany the French influence on furniture design was more prominent than in the western or northern parts, where Dutch and English styles were predominant. The big centers for the production of south German Baroque furniture...
