French 18th Century Regence Period Giltwood Console
About the Item
An outstanding and unique French 18th century Regence period giltwood console, circa 1720. The console is raised on four handsome S scrolled tapered legs ending with hoof feet. Each leg is richly carved with reeded patterns and circular cabochons, topped with impressive protruding carved palmette and elegant floral carvings. All connected by an X shaped stretcher with an octagonal central plateau. The frieze displays a spectacular floral running wave design on a hammered backplate below an intertwining carved fillet with charming floral cabochons. Above rests the original Brèche d'Alep double mottled marble top with rounded corners. — Read Less
