Oscar Bach Attr. Bronze and Onyx Top Red Console Hall Table with Figural Mirror

About the Item

A fine neoclassical motif bronze console table with matching wall mirror attributed to decorative artist Oscar Bach. The table sits on claw feet rising into tapered legs with figural partial nude female busts. The apron is decorated in a red finish adorned with a central open work gilt frieze of opposing lions drinking from a fountain book ended by two friezes of fountains. The sides are decorated with open work cartouche friezes. The apron is surmounted by a shaped onyx top. The mirror matches accordingly. Console measures 32"H x 33"W x 13"D. Mirror measures 34"H x 21.5"W x 1.5"D

    Italianate mirror and console set designed and manufactured by Oscar Bach, 1923. Copper alloy with dark brown chemical patina, glass, lacquer, tinned sheet metal. The mirror is referenced in on the official Oscar Bach website in the category featured work under mirrors. The website was created by "The friends of Oscar Bach" which is dedicated to the life and work of Oscar Bach. From the description of the mirror. The framing panels of this Italianate mirror consist of foliate scrolls within rectangular borders, laid over lacquer panels. The side, top, and bottom panels contain vines with triangular leaves, textured fruit and leaves, and berries, all imposed over red lacquer. Each of the four corner panels depicts a four-leafed blossom on an open square device, imposed over black lacquer. Each of these eight lacquered panels is framed by a simple molding, and a ribboned slip molding surrounds the glass that lies within the frame made by the lacquered panels. Above this ornate rectangular frame is a pediment containing a classical mask with lobed hair or crown and down-turned mouth, flanked by converging S-scrolls with petaled flowers.
