Scandinavian Modern Side Table

About the Item

Nearly identical in size to the previous entry, yet unique in the cabinetmaker's use of lighter, more even-grained wood veneers, these tables look like fraternal, rather than identical twins. Brazilian designers of the 1950s and 1960s introduced the rich patinas of their native rainforest woods and grasses into modern design. Until recently Brazilian pieces were, and have remained, relatively scarce in European galleries and even in the US, following the restrictive export policies that coincided with this prolific design period in Brazil. This resulted in the beautiful, thin veneer being smuggled out of the country and sold to Swedes hoping to achieve the popular and distinctly moody, modern design. Made in Sweden.
