Alex Roskin, Grand Asymmetric Dining Table, USA

About the Item

With each of its three sides a generous 93 inches wide, Alex Roskin’s Grand Asymmetric dining table can seat a dinner party of 12. Resting on a sparkling tripod base of mirror-polished stainless steel, the asymmetric three-sided table top is an ideal option for unique spaces. Available by commission, the table can be customized in a variety of metals and finishes, and a variety of wood top options. Roskin’s works blend functional design with modernist sculptural references. A natural successor of innovative artists such as Richard Serra, Jean Arp, and Constantin Brancusi, Roskin’s sculptural works reflect the artist’s modernist and primitive influences. Beginning with a series of quick sketches, Roskin captures the movement of a basic form. By sculpting in foam and wood Roskin translates that movement into a structural model that can then be cast in bronze, or formed in aluminum or steel, and finished with carved wood elements. Rejecting outright anthropomorphic mimicry in favor of subtle, sculpted muscular forms, Roskin notes: “I try with each piece to create a stance and a presence, some with more contrapposto. I aim to give each piece a feeling it is inhaling or ready to make a move. I try to steer clear of the decorative, but rather to draw on mass, volume, line, negative space, and my love of materials and the craft of working with them.”

Alex Roskin’s Monumental bronze and rosewood dining table runs an impressive 14 feet, with the ability to seat between 12 to 14 people. The table’s base follows Roskin’s penchant for muscular forms, bowed and sinuous. The base form is first sculpted by the artist and then cast in bronze. Roskin hand-rubs the base with a dark patina giving the table contrasting areas of polished and patinated bronze. The table top is of East Indian Laurel Rosewood...

  • Glass Top Rectangular Dining Table with Asymmetric Angled Lucite Pedestal Bases
    By Charles Hollis Jones
    Located in Chattanooga, TN
This gorgeous Nineteen-Laties Lucite table is almost ghostly as it the clear glass top and acrylic pedestals seem to vanish in the sight line. The two thick Lucite pedestals are asymmetric wedges resembling a three dimensional scalene triangle. The sleek rectangular glass top is half inch thick with a green tint along the edge. The table gleams as light moves through the glass and Lucite. Imagine this in front of a window, shimmering in the light, disappearing on the horizon as not to obstruct you water, mountain or urban view. Get creative with the bases. You can position these bases a variety of ways to create a different look. The bases can also accommodate different size glass tops and different shapes. A round or oval glass top would work just as well as a rectangle or square. Let us know if you would like to purchase the bases without the glass top. We will let you know the adjusted price and shipping. We also have two more sets of Lucite table bases...
